What are the Slack Archives?
It’s a history of our time together in the Slack Community! There’s a ton of knowledge in here, so feel free to search through the archives for a possible answer to your question.
Because this space is not active, you won’t be able to create a new post or comment here. If you have a question or want to start a discussion about something, head over to our categories and pick one to post in! You can always refer back to a post from Slack Archives if needed; just copy the link to use it as a reference..
Last week during the IPC22 Berlin, one guy asked me a really interesting question: “I am already 6 years as a developer, could you recommend to me what language should I learn to *become a Senior Engineer*, maybe focus on learning DevOps? Maybe improve my FE skills?”
I gave him an answer which I consider somehow really important in our industry, so I decided to write it down to share it with other people as well: https://chemaclass.com/blog/the-path-to-seniority-in-software/
Looking forward to hearing your feedback and if you have a similar experience regarding this topic. Especially if it’s totally different 🙂
A while ago I learned about the Dreyfuß Model of skill acquisition:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreyfus_model_of_skill_acquisition
There's a great talk from Dan North where he explains his take on applying that model to the skill acquisition of software developers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvs7VEsQzKY
This model helps categorize where you (or others) are in your (their) learning journey on a more abstract level so you can get away from thinking in programming languages/tools/practices that you want to learn
Thank you, @U01T075RRHD!
